Christmas Coming
Crushed Cycle
Bikes are my favorite. So my companion got a flat, and then repaired it, and got like five more, so somethings wrong but he can’t figure it out, so a bunch of our time this week has been devoted to fixing his tire. But that’s just how life is sometimes! Sometimes you just gotta keep fixing the tire, and then a really nice person, like our mission leader, Jacob, will fix it for you because we don’t know what we are doing. (Honestly I think it’s just the wear and tear of the tires or whatever, and so does my comp but he insisted that he try and fix it, so hopefully he can).
Couldn’t Come In
Well, I messed up. We went down to do something, I got a package, opened up, set the keys down… and we got locked out of our apartment. Oops. Well, we call the landlord, he tells us he is in Tyskland (Germany) and can’t open it for us so he was going to send a locksmith which cost around 200kr ($25 or something)... but I’m PRETTY POSITIVE that he literally just told us that, and then came and unlocked it himself. He literally had a key that said our exact address on it… Well we had to cancel one of our appointments with an old lady in our ward (she was totally understanding though and rescheduled for that week… we also helped her fix her computer).
Choir, Crowded, Crammed
Choir was great as usual this week, the person yelling music terms at everyone, (mainly the four guys) but I can’t fix anything because I have no clue what she is saying because she talks way fast and my vocabulary is not super big in the choir department (tone in danish can mean pitch, note, tone, and key). I was always asked to do a solo for December first. Something Christmasy, and I need SUGGESTIONS! Anyways, we finish choir, and go to floorball. Martin and Lukas are there (two of our friends) and a bunch of the Aaronic Priesthood kids, and the young men’s leader’s (Kasper) daughter. It was a ton of fun. It’s kind of funny when a bunch of kids are trying to attack you with hockey sticks. Just a good, chill fun game, pretty intense too (at least with all the adults).
Conference
We went down to Horsens (this is probably the only word that we can pronounce like english in danish hahah) for Zone Conference, it was a really motivating experience for me. I found a lot of strength there. As a mission, we made our goal of bringing 50 people to Christ, and now we are going for 60 people. But the thing that impacted me the most was the fact that they asked us to pray for every single person, by name, every night that we are working with. It gave me faith and reminded me that our prayers need to be specific. God does not have a magic works for everything bag of blessings that he just throws at people, we need to be specific - ask and ye shall receive.
Chill
Today was pretty awesome. Our mission leader went around the city with us, and our new friend, and bought us some candy, a hotdog, and socks. He’s a really really awesome guy and honestly spoils us. He had us over for dinner around 3 times this week, one of which we ate duck which was delicious. He’s super awesome.
‘Complishments
I think it’s important to keep you guys updated with the people we are working with, I’m not sure how in depth I can go, but a little update where everything is: the family we are working with has been coming to church, but we are not really sure where to take them next, they are basically members, and not gonna lie they sometimes do more than members do (like they listen to talks while they drive from conference). They are just really good people, but I’m afraid that at this point the missionaries can only take them so far. I think it’s a matter of getting the father worthy for the priesthood to be able to baptise his children. Second, sadly our other returning member didn’t come, but his mom didn’t either so they were probably just gone somewhere. Third, we got a new friend, Kenneth, he’s the mission leaders really good friend, but he kept a commitment this week and came to church!
Consider Christ’s Challenges
I’ve been reading the New Testament, and I’m almost finished with it. In the last few chapters I’ve read, it talks a lot about how as missionaries, whether that be missionaries in the field or member missionaries, we take upon ourselves Christ’s sufferings. He was often despised, rejected, and went through so much, that we as missionaries go through occasionally. We suffer a small small portion in comparison of what He did, but nonetheless suffer it. When I look at it that way, I understand why I’m doing this. He suffered so that all could come back to Heavenly Father, and so me joining him in that suffering, and the members, and everyone that furthers His work, can say that in the next life. I’m always trying to remember, through the nej taks, door slams, sarcastic comments, that I can say I stood before the people of Denmark and declared His word with the clearest, strongest words I know how to use. When I stand before the judgement bar of God, I want to tell him that I tried my best to help people come to him. A talk I would suggest listening to is Safety For the Soul by Jeffrey R. Holland https://www.
I know that this church is Jesus Christ’s church here on the earth today. I’ve found peace in life, and I know that everyone can through Christ. The truths restored today in our church, I am beyond grateful for. Christ suffered to share the truth, and I will follow him and do the same.
Scripture: James 5:13 “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms”
Challenge: Pray specifically. Pray for one person specifically, about a need that they have, about a problem that needs fixed.
Word of the Week: Vandslange - Directly translated this is water snake, but it means hose.
Picture: me and my comp eating food
I love you all and I hope and pray that you all have a fantastic week.
Med kærlig hilsen,
Ældste Salisbury
